Brave Sir Robin shield is my favorite cursed item, it gave your character fear which made them run away automatically along with a ton of extra movement points. One of my 200 IQ child gaming moments was equipping a cursed dagger that healed enemies and then using it to attack my party members. The character balance is very uneven, marksmen are almost worthless compared to a spellcaster raining down instant death spells or a monk getting +1-2 unarmed damage every level. One of the secret phrases you need to advance a scenario is 'srekcap og' which is just 'go packers' reversed. It's incredibly janky, lots of weird/annoying things, there are parts you would never figure out on your own and need to look through a guide. It feels like a super sped up version of tabletop RPGs, where most turn based games to me feel very slowed down. The combat is turned-based but also very fast, which is one of my favorite parts. The character customization is great with dozens of races and classes. They were the original publisher for noted crank Jeff Vogel's Exile games. It's an insanely interesting game, the creator designed everything in notebooks while deployed in desert storm, they got a cease and desist from wizards of the coast, lots of the scenarios were made by fans and they could become official with some profit sharing (in the 90's! this was heralded as an amazing new thing when valve did it a few years ago). When I was a kid I didn't know anything about Dungeons and Dragons so it was all very unique to me. Realmz is one of my favorite games of all time, I'll fire up a mac emulator and play through a bunch of scenarios every few years.
